Early 2019 was a whirlwind of activity at Story Stick! And spring, WHENEVER it arrives in Minnesota, shows no sign of a slow down. But one Q1 project in particular touched our hearts.
On a Saturday evening in mid-February, Story Stick was honored—for the fifth consecutive year—to be the producing sponsor for the Blue Moon Ball, a fund-raising gala for the Minnesota Colorectal Cancer Research Foundation.
The Minnesota Colorectal Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to building a community that is passionate about funding research to find better treatments that improve the survival and quality of life of people living with colon and rectal cancer. About 1 in 20 Americans is diagnosed with colorectal cancer; it is the second leading cause of cancer death.
The Minnesota Colorectal Cancer Research Foundation provides seed money to promising scientists and research in order to further their innovative ideas. Receiving support for their early work and results then enables the researchers to apply for grants from much larger funders.
Featuring a cocktail hour; silent auction; dinner; short program, including interviews with current and past-years’ grant recipients; live auction; music and dancing, this year’s Blue Moon Ball goal was an ambitious $200,000.00. But the inspired, generous gala attendees blew that away, contributing over $235,00.00 that will allow funding at least three researchers in the next year!
It truly was a marvelous night for a moon dance.
